Obituary for Dale Duane Lewis

Dale Duane Lewis, age 88 years, of Shakopee, Minnesota, passed away November 9, 2017. Dale graduated from high school in 1948 at Milbank S.D., and started work with Northwestern Bell Telephone in South Dakota as a telephone repairman. He retired as a telecommunications engineer at U.S. West in Minneapolis after a combined 40 years in the Bell System and U.S. West. He actively participated in the transformation of telecommunications from an analog, electro-mechanical system to a digital computerized system. After retirement from the telephone company, Dale worked at Manheim Northstar for 15 years.
Dale enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1949, was called to active duty October 1950, and deployed to Korea with the 15th Field Artillery of the 2nd Infantry Division. He participated in intense combat operations that marked the first year of the Korean War. Dale was discharged from service in October 1951 after recovering from wounds.
Dale married Merlys Remund from Wilmot S.D., July 9, 1950. Their treasure and legacy is their eight children. As a husband and father, Dale sacrificed his personal agenda, putting family first, to provide a stable and secure home filled with love, grace, mercy, and a great deal of patience. He enjoyed family fishing trips and Vikings football. Dale’s family was his greatest joy.
Survived by his wife of 67 years, Merlys; children, Greg (In Yong) Lewis, Carolyn (Richard) Cain, Lisa (Forrest) Flint, Shelley (Jim) Lewis-Leander, Bill (Lori) Lewis, Lynne (Jeff) Lentz, Robin (Dave) Berg, and Jim (Karen) Lewis; seventeen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lillian Lewis, and sister, Artis Hanson.
