Obituary for JoAnn M. Odland

JoAnn M. Odland, age 85, died peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee, Minnesota.
A daughter of the late Paul P. and Mabel A. Prellwitz, Shakopee; JoAnn was born on April 17, 1932, in Shakopee, Minnesota. She was a Shakopee girl her entire life except for a time during the Korean conflict at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where her late husband, Einar C. Odland, served in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division.
JoAnn proudly served the state of Minnesota for more than forty years in the Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicle Services. One of the state’s longest-serving employees, she diligently and professionally provided thousands of driver’s licenses to new and current Minnesota residents.
JoAnn, better known as “Gramma Josie,” was an avid hockey lover. She rarely missed watching her grandsons, Cory and Casey, play hockey throughout their Shakopee hockey careers.
JoAnn leaves behind son Einar P. Odland, and daughter-in-law Beth (Hennes) Odland, Shakopee; and daughter Kris and son-in-law Robert Thorlakson of The Villages, FL. She is also survived by grandsons Cory Odland (with wife, the former Amber Gainor), Cottage Grove, MN; and Casey Odland (with wife, the former Brittni Kuyper), great-granddaughter, Millie Beth Odland, Bemidji, MN, and last-but-not-least, her beloved “four-legged” daughter, Mindee.
A private family memorial service will be held with interment to follow at Shakopee’s Valley Cemetery. Officiating is the Reverend Gary Kinkel.
