Obituary for Mary R. Zimmer

Mary R. Zimmer, age 83, of Prior Lake, MN, entered eternal life on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at McKenna Crossing in Prior Lake. Mary was born to Albert and Genevieve Bilski (Plumbon) in St. Paul, MN, on November 20, 1933. She grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy high school. She went on to attend the St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing becoming a registered nurse.

It was in St. Cloud in 1955, she met her husband Jerry and after their marriage they bought a house in the Macalester-Groveland area of St. Paul. In 1968, in part to get a bigger house, they moved to New Brighton where they raised five girls and two boys. In addition to being a joyful, loving mother, Mary was a devoted, empathetic nurse. For much of her career she cared for the elderly with whom she had a lifelong exceptional bond. In retirement, the couple lived in Anoka and Mary loved to walk along the Mississippi river, tend her flowers and dote on her grandchildren. Throughout her life faith, humor and perseverance helped her overcome adversity.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; sons and daughters, Mark (Zhaneta), Lori (Doug) Schur, Patti (Dan) VanVickle, Greg (Christin), Mary (Jim) Stuart, Carol (Mark) Pederson, Amy (Bill) Kegley; brother Jerry (Sandy) Bilski; sister, Nancy Taylor. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Julian and Jack Bilski. She had 13 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
