Obituary for Richard "Dick" K. Ewert

Richard “Dick” K. Ewert, age 79 of Shakopee, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital.
Dick was born on February 26, 1938 in Kasota, MN, the son of Isaac and Dolly (Bohrer) Ewert. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 311. Dick married Verneil Dunn on July 2, 1960 in Mapleton, MN. He worked as a teacher for Minnetonka elementary schools for 23 years and then retired as an elementary principal in Chaska.
Dick and Verneil loved to travel, especially to Hawaii and spending time at the lake. He enjoyed working in the garden, reading and woodworking, specifically making furniture. Dick was an outdoors man and appreciated his hunting and fishing trips, golfing, walking, rollerblading and biking. He was a fan of sports and loved cheering on the Minnesota Golden Gopher football and basketball teams. He cherished time spent with his family and friends.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Verneil; son, Dan (Kelly); “favorite” granddaughter, Makena; sister, Sherry (Terry) Overn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Dolly; brother, Don.

Officiating is Pastor Ray Kruger. Serving as pallbearers are Terry Overn, Bill Laing, Ron Coster, Pat Gannon, Bill Wermerskirchen, and Jeff Stephens, Honorary pallbearers are Jim O’Brien, Bob Fleagle, Ron Dreier. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
