Obituary for Robert H. Siefert

SIEFERT, Robert H. “Bob”, age 92 of Shakopee, formerly of Deer River and South Minneapolis, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota.

Bob was born in Butte MT, but spent the majority of his childhood years on the iron range, in Chisolm, MN. He later spent many years helping his parents run Lakewood Lodge on Sand lake, in Deer River, MN. He eventually made his way to South Minneapolis, where he married Ruth, his wife of 52 years, and together they raised their two daughters. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent many weekends up at their family property on Sand lake, where he would later help build their retirement home. They spent the later years of retirement in Shakopee where they were a short drive away from their grandchildren-- often attending their sporting events, plays, concerts and piano recitals.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in business administration. He retired from the Department of Natural Resources after more than 20 years as the director of human resources. He enjoyed shuffle board, playing in a men’s bocce ball league and was active with the Shakopee Seniors Club. He also enjoyed being a part of Wooddale Church and was active with their Berean group and served as part of the pew crew. He was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to Minnesota teams. He was a devoted Twins fan and all things Gopher. Watching Gopher hockey in Mariucci arena was a weekly winter pastime for more than 30 years.
He was known for his patriotism and was proud to have served his country. He was a world war II veteran stationed in the Pacific areas the Philippines and Okinawa where he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic service during military operations. He enjoyed staying connected to those he served with and was a devout member of his 96th Infantry Division Association serving as both president and reunion chairman for a number of years.
He was a loyal friend and loving father and grandfather whose sense of humor was enjoyed by all who knew him. He will be missed, but we take comfort in knowing that he now resides in his Heavenly home, reunited with his beloved wife Ruth.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Harry and Elfie. He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Rick) Rame, and Julie Siefert; grandchildren, Sam and Jenna Rame; brother, Richard (LouAnne).
