Obituary for Gladys E. Megorden

Gladys Megorden, age 88, of Prior Lake, MN passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at her home at McKenna Crossing.

Gladys was born May 14, 1930 in Gully, Minnesota, the daughter of Milton and Inga Brenna. She married Philip C. Megorden on August 29, 1953, in Gully.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Philip. She is survived by her sons, Scott (Barbara), Corby (Vilma) Megorden; daughter, Ruth Ann (Jeff) DeFrang; granddaughters, Sarah (Jason) Dale, Mary (James) Wilson; great-grandchildren, Claire, Dillon, Ian and Eliza Wilson.

Gladys was one of nine children, grew up in the Gully area and attended Fosston High School. After her high school graduation, she attended Business School in Grand Forks. She attended Mayville State College, ND after she was married and received an AA in Elementary Education. Her career began at the Veteran’s Administration in Grand Forks and Fargo, ND. From 1968 to 1992 Gladys worked in hospitals and clinics in Park Rapids, MN, Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico, Austin, MN and Fergus Falls as an Accredited Medical Records Technician. She also worked for the Foundation for Health Care for three years and retired in 1992.

After retiring, Gladys and her husband Phil fled the snowy, cold winters of Minnesota and moved to Tampa, FL where they enjoyed ten sunny years. While in Florida, Phil and Gladys were avid golfers, spent time at the beach, always found treasures at the local Flea Market and took part in the many social activities in their close-knit community. Mom also was an avid reader, took part in the local Mahjong club and led exercise classes in the community center.

In 2007, Gladys and her husband moved back to Minnesota and were one of the first residents to move into McKenna Crossing. While living at McKenna, Gladys enjoyed the many activities McKenna offered and never missed the social hours. She also acted as an ambassador welcoming new residents.

Gladys was a loving wife and mother. Throughout over 50 years of marriage, she loved and cared for her husband Phil. They lived life actively involved in church and community. They loved to sing and participated in church and community choirs for much of their lives. Gladys held a quiet faith and throughout her life studied remained active in Bible Studies and personal study of Scripture. Even as she aged, she sang hymns from memory and her heart.

Gladys loved life and lived it fully. Her love for people was infectious and made an impact wherever she lived. Her home quickly became a hub of the community, filled with friends, food and family. Throughout her life, vacation usually meant time with family, wherever they were. She and Phil traveled the country to remain connected to the lives of their children and direct families.

She lived well and will be dearly missed.
