Obituary for Patrick A. Yelk

Patrick A. Yelk, age 60, of Savage, MN, formerly of Brooklyn Park, MN and Sun Prairie, WI died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Hennepin County Medical Center after a long battle with cancer and many complications since November 2015. Together, Pat and Susan waged Pat's battle against his grim diagnosis received in November 2015 and coupled with Pat's courage, fortitude, grit, sheer perseverance, and faith he maintained each day, allowing him to exceed any expectations of such a grim diagnosis.

Pat is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Susan; his son, Roger Yelk [Michelle]; two grandchildren, Kaylynn Yelk and Wyatt Yelk; Susan's children, Jonathon Doherty, Kristin Doherty [Nettie], Katherine Klein [Philip], Margaret Doherty [Sarah], and Pat Doherty, Jr.; sisters, Claudia Quick [Bob], Eloise Chauvin [Phil], Martha Brantmeier [Bruce], and Beverly Konkol [Tom]; brother, Tom Yelk; mother-in-law, Rhea Maes of Mankato. Pat had many sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews from the Yelk family and the Maes family. Pat is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Marie Yelk; and his sister, Kathleen Yelk-Emmerton.

Pat attended Sacred Hearts Catholic Elementary School, Sun Prairie High School, and the University of Minnesota. Pat was in the printing industry for 35+ years with Rapit Printing, and most recently until 2015, with RR Donnelley & Sons. Pat was a longtime member of the St. Paul Curling Club and taught Jr. Curling at the St. Paul Curling Club for many years. Pat was very talented in many things including curling, woodworking, home projects, gardening, and other sports. He treasured time spent with family and friends and enjoyed being just about one of the best Santa Claus's for his great-nieces and nephews. He and Susan followed the Chicago Cubs, MN Twins, MN Gophers, MN Vikings, various WI sports teams, and various college teams; and enjoyed boating and time at the lake.

Susan and family would like to express much thanks to the various physicians [Dr. Andres Wiernik, Dr. Ameer Khowaja, Dr. Douglas Rausch, and Dr. Samuel Maiser] and medical teams at Hennepin County Medical Center that cared for Pat. Susan and Pat's family would like to express much thanks to the entire staff at Augustana of Apple Valley Open Circle Adult Daycare / Patty Crawford, Center Director.
